Editor’s note:  The following account is by Harold Mottlemeyer, a former Chicago reporter who first traveled to these parts in pursuit of a story involving Al Capone. The Windy City mobster owned properties in the Northwoods and came up here often to escape "the heat" of the city. Mottlemeyer soon fell into disfavor with the Mob boss, and to save his hide, the clever muckraker grew remarkably adept at hiding amid the cedar swamps and hemlock forests of Florence County. Today, the reclusive old ink slinger contiues to compile his "reports" while living in a small backwoods cabin near Tipler, Wis. He stores his notes in White Owl cigar boxes and hammers away daily on a gray Underwood. Unfortunately, we cannot vouch for the accuracy of his reporting. So we’ll label The Tipler Chronicles as fiction and let you, the reader, decide.

In a few weeks, the video clip will be functional. For now, just click on the button below. You can read from the screen or print the Tipler Chronicles.
